This is my simple religion. There is no need for temples; no need for complicated philosophy. Our own brain, our own heart is our temple; the philosophy is kindness. – Dalai Lama
This is the Medway, the river through the village. It doesn't look this way right now, but as soon as Spring arrives it will. |
Just a short instalment today. It’s Monday, and we’re still alive after the move.
Over the weekend we packed up our chattels in big, old, nasty Halifax, shoved them in a surprisingly large U-Haul, and beat it for the woods.
Well not so much “the woods,” but to the middle of Queens County. Where I grew up.
The foot of Ponoque lake, about 15 minutes away. Every day. |
After a not completely uneventful drive (slush on the road in Lunenburg County), we unloaded what fit into a 1,600 sq. ft. house, and shoved it into one under 1,000.
Have you ever tried on your favourite summer shorts after not getting regular exercise through the winter? If so, you know exactly what I mean. At least we got the zipper closed on the house...
We’ve begun the task of unpacking. Some important things have been found, others we wish we knew where they were remain hidden. But it will all be discovered over time.
It's going to be interesting once I start cooking again. "Where the heck did we put XXXXX?!?" A minor inconvenience.
This week we finish the sale in the city. And then I guess country life starts in earnest.
Thanks to the great kindness all our friends showed us during the move, and for temporary storage while we settle in. You know who you are. We love and appreciate you.
To my friends at Colour (and beyond) I appreciate you too, we’ll see you soon.
Things we have discovered:
They have a really good club sandwich at the local store, plus a better grocery selection than one deserves in a village of about 200 people, you CAN get cell service, and our internet connection down here is good enough to stream PBS online without too much annoyance. At least not much more annoyance than in Halifax.
Facetime, though, doesn't work so well. That's OK. Laptop and cell phone cameras are never all that flattering.
Of course you’re welcome to visit once we're settled in. Just let us know first. You know country folk – they greet strangers at the door with a gun.
Oh wait, that’s Halifax where people shoot at each other every night...
So far, so good. :-)
